The Power of the Last Shot
The shot which I chose to reflect on was one of the last shots in the movie which showed the precogs new home far away from any noticeable civilization. I feel like the main subject in this frame most definitely has to be the precogs home. It is very noticeable that the house seems to literally be in the middle of nowhere and the eye is immediately drawn to the house because it stands out from the surroundings. I also found it very interesting how the director put the house mostly in the lower-center of the grid, which made it possible to show far into the background and the viewer can clearly see that there are no signs of human inhabitants anywhere close and it also shows a vast landscape which reaches into the horizon. For this specific shot the director chose to have the sun setting which makes sense because the film is not only ending but its also like the precogs journey is over also now and they have begun a new life. This whole final shot is very well lit and you can see most of the nature in the shot except for a couple shadows around the trees. The lighting in this scene creates a peaceful ending to the movie and leaves the audience with a sense that everything ended up okay in the end. This shot is a long-distance shot and was used very well because it captured a lot of the environment and gave the audience a good idea of the location where the precogs are currently residing. The shot also helped us understand the precogs better because earlier in there life they were surrounded by technology and large amounts of people and finally they are able to live peacefully far away from everything and their troubles. A specific detail which always catches my eye in this scene is the smoke which is slowly rising out of the chimney of the house. I feel as this adds to the home-like environment which the director was clearly trying to capture. Opposed to their past life the precogs now appear to be living a more normal life, instead of sitting in precog-juice and predicting depressing murders all day.
